It follows the Birth to Five Matters Framework and supports children in becoming confident, independent learners, ready for their next stage of development.

We take the birth to five as a skeleton  and build a tailored curriculum to support this based on the cohort we have in - with this in mind the medium term curriculum and long term curriculum are fluid documents.

Our Termly concepts:

Across the year, children explore key concepts that help them understand themselves and the world around them:

• Autumn: Change & Celebration

• Spring: Belonging & Our World

• Summer: Animals & Humans, Past & Present

Topic examples include families, seasons, food, jobs, animals, nature, holidays, transport and understanding who we are, Building on learning from each stage of development the children are challenged and learning consistently embedded throughout their time with us.

What Children Learn:

Our curriculum focuses on developing the whole child, including:

• Making relationships and exploring feelings

• Communication, listening and speaking skills

• Building a sense of self and confidence

• Learning about people, communities and the world

• Creativity, imagination and expression

• Early technology awareness

Reading, writing, maths and physical development are continuously threaded throughout daily activities.

How Children Learn With Make Waves:

We support learning through key skills:

• Investigating

• Exploring

• Questioning

• Practising

• Creating

• Refining

These skills are worked on each term and feed into each other so each term's learning is built on the previous i.e children need to investigate before they can explore. Every child in our nursery is also assigned a Key Worker from the nursery team, who support and identify any gaps in learning, and help them move forward.

• Settle into routines and build strong positive relationships

• Grow language and communication skills

• Their place in the world

• Develop respect for different cultures and experiences

Parent Involvement:

We value families as part of the learning journey, and look to include parents and caregivers at every stage of children’s progress - through regular, detailed updates through the Tapestry App (that keeps you up to date with Nursery goings on) as well as in person and interactive opportunities, including:

• Parents evenings

• Celebrations and events

• Open afternoons

• Trips and visitors

• Sharing images or objects from home
